Sydney Opera House has received a note from Jan Utzon informing us of the death his mother, Lis, wife of the late architect Jørn Utzon. Lis Utzon passed away on Sunday 29 August at her home in Denmark. She was 92 years old.
Sydney Opera House architect Jørn Utzon died on 29 November 2008 aged 90 and, in December that year, the New South Wales parliament passed a special motion of condolence to honour his life and work. In 1972 Jørn Utzon designed a summer house in Mallorca and named it Can Lis in honour of his wife. The couple lived there for many years before moving back to Denmark in the 1990s.
Sydney Opera House extends its condolences to the Utzon’s children, Kim, Jan and Lin and their grandchildren.
